Redox is where an electrical current is generated by the exchange of electrons between two dissimilar metals. This process is known for its many benefits in water purification. STAGE 2: "One micron absolute" is a high quality pleated cartridge manufactured by Harmsco, a leader in the filtration industry. One micron is fine enough to block large bacteria and 99.9% of parasites like Giardia and Crypto sporidium. This filter has been independently lab tested and certified. STAGE 3: "0.5 micron carbon block" also has about the same benefits as STAGE 1, and more. This is where chemical toxins are absorbed, like volatile organic compounds, pesticides, petrochemicals, chlorine and chlorine by-products. STAGE 4: This is where chemical toxins are absorbed, like volatile organic compounds, pesticides, petrochemicals, chlorine and chlorine by-products. UV Disinfection: "Sterilight UV Lamp" UV radiation works as a drinking water disinfectant by altering the cellular material (DNA) in most microorganisms (viruses, bacteria, and protozoa) so that they cannot reproduce and cause infection. UV treatment systems produce light radiation over a narrow range of wavelengths known to "zap" most types of microorganisms. UV systems may use "low-pressure" or "medium=pressure" mercury vapor lamps. In order to kill microorganisms the water must be exposed long enough for the UV light to do its work. For this reason UV treatment is an appropriate technology for residences because most home water needs are only for flow rates of a few gallons per minute. An advantage of UV systems over chlorination is that no chemicals are added to the water and UV treatment does not cause the formation of any known toxic byproducts. Installation not included.
